Plantar Fasciitis is caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia tissue that links the leg to the foot. When the tissue experiences stress, injury or fatigue this can lead to the tissue becoming inflamed. The condition usually happens in only one foot but there have been occurrences where both feet have been affected at the same time. The symptoms of plantar fasciitis are severe pain in the foot especially when we try to walk, the pain can primarily be in the heel area but has been known to go up to the midfoot as well. The pain tends to be worse in the morning or when a person has been off their feet for a while and stands up to walk again.

Now that we have identified it, how does a person go about treating it? Well, there are some home remedies such as using an over the counter pain reliever that helps eliminate inflammation such as Ibuprofen. A person can also use foot insoles that are designed to relieve the pain as they walk, and even changing your shoes to a better fitting less worn-out pair would help. Another thing that would help is to get off your feet as much as possible, may magnify the pain more when you get up to walk, but it is also a good way to heal the inflammation. However, it is usually a good idea if the pain persists or becomes worse to seek out your primary care doctor for further treatment.

It can become necessary to seek out a physician to get over plantar fasciitis. The reason being that if the condition doesn’t get better of becomes worse there could be an underline cause such as an unknown injury that could be causing the inflammation and not allowing it to heal. A doctor can run various test such as an x-ray, and MRI to determine what is the cause. From there they can make the diagnosis and discuss a form of treatment. That could include things such as physical therapy and perhaps in some cases surgery if necessary.

The thing to keep in mind about plantar fasciitis is that most of the time with a home treatment it will clear up on its own. The condition is just trying to warn us about taking the time to give our feet some TLC for a little while before we can get back to our normal routine.
